A Letter from Laila Yaghi (2009)

Ziyad Yaghi is a 22 year old American Muslim of Palestinian descent who was born in Jordan after his parents left Upstate N.Y for a job overseas. Ziyad and his parents then came back to Upstate N.Y when he was about 2 years old. When Ziyad was about 3 years old, he moved to NC with his mother and brother.

Ziyad is known as a kind and gentle person by family, friends and colleagues. He is always giving money to the homeless and to anyone that asks him for money, Ziyad will give him or her the last dollar in his pocket. The FBI and media have tried to depict my son as someone evil when in reality he’s soft, gentle and caring. He sticks his neck out for his friends and is always helping people in need.

My son is a now a victim of the FBI’s oppression.

About two years ago (2007) when Ziyad was only 19, he and his friend went overseas to his home country (Jordan) and from there, he and his friend also visited Egypt and had a wonderful time and then came back to the US. Soon after their trip overseas, the FBI was knocking on my door and asking me questions. When Ziyad and his friend came back, they were constantly harassed and watched by the FBI.

Before Ziyad and his friend went to Jordan they knew a specific person of interest to the FBI for a short while, then when they came back and had no contact with this person, the FBI continued to harass my son and his friend and they tried to pressure them to say something, even though Ziyad and his friend had nothing to say. Both boys insisted that they didn’t know anything personal about the person the FBI were conducting an investigation on and couldn’t understand what the FBI was looking for!

Two years later (2009), a simple fight broke between the boys and one of the friends of Ziyad The FBI made it sound so horrendous and tried to charge Ziyad and his friend with many things and threw them in jail. The FBI came once more to my door and asked me more questions and then one of them told me that he wants the boys in jail because he wants them to feel more pressured so that they will tell them something about the individual the FBI have been inquiring about earlier. Again that same name was mentioned and the boys stayed in jail almost four months and when the FBI found that there is nothing against these boys that could prove what they were looking for, my son and his friend were released.

After two months, when my son had cleaned the apartment for me and was about to cook, he went to the pool for a short swim, the FBI came with a swat team and arrested my son with new charges! The charges were so absurd! Ziyad and his friend were charged with conspiring to kill and maim people abroad! The FBI two days later came to my apartment to give me my son’s swimming shorts and told me that they think Ziyad knows something about the person they’ve been inquiring about from the beginning and that “Ziyad is not telling us and that he needs to cooperate with us!”

Interestingly, one of the FBI officers told me and some of Ziyad’s friends that he is trying to get promoted. So can you see how the FBI works? They take innocent people from their homes and throw them in jail for no wrong doing? Where is the justice here? Why would my son be taken away for no reason? I cannot explain the pain I’ve been feeling since July (of 2009) and I’ve been in deep depression crying all the time because of the injustice done to my son and many other Muslims in America.

We are a normal American family. This is outrageous! We are only being targeted because we are Muslims. We have done nothing wrong! Nothing wrong! Ziyad has a kind heart; he is someone that refuses to kill ants so how is he going to kill humans?

Please Support Ziyad and take a step in bringing an end to the Oppression done to my Son and many others. Silence is not an option in helping the oppressed, rather is it merely defeatism. We NEED to speak out and take ACTION to end these nightmares.

Yours respectfully,
Laila Yaghi

Evil Reincarnated: The Truth About the NC7 Trial

After thinking for over two years about what is happening to my son, me, and a lot of innocent people in the same situation, I concluded that there are a lot of people in positions of power who are simply evil.

Ziyad Yaghi chilling with friends in EgyptIt began when a SWAT team arrested my son on July 27, 2009, for a simple trip he took overseas. Everything that happened, including the arrest, was all preplanned.

Everything prior to the arrest until this day has been preplanned by the FBI, the media, and whoever works at the top.

A SWAT team came to arrest my son who was an innocent young man swimming at the pool in our apartment complex. At the time, he was contemplating which college to go to.

Now you might ask, why a SWAT team would come for an unarmed young man!  But because everything was pre-staged, even the media also (who is in on it) portrayed it in a way that will send shivers down your spine to create a scare for an audience of uninformed people.

People who have never learned from their past mistakes like the Red Scare that created fear in the hearts of all Americans to justify the evil things the government had done.

Now it is a different scare that they are using; the Muslim scare, i.e. Islamophobia!

This young man, Ziyad, my son, went overseas to get married and to visit family members and was accused of material support and conspiring to kill and maim people abroad!  Just think, this young man has family members living in Jordan and Jordan is one of the most peaceful countries. Further, Jordanians do not practice or support Jihad!

If you think a little bit more, why would a person suspected of committing a terrorist act or Jihad, come back to the US and resume a normal life? This, in fact, shows you how things are pre-staged, and how the FBI desperately wants to convince people that these young men, my son and his codefendants, are in fact guilty. So the FBI went ahead and arrested an acquaintance of my son, a young man who is illegally in America, scared him and threatened to deport him, then paid him to write lies against some of these accused young men.

To make it worse also for the defendants, the trial was set in September to remind people of September 11th. As if this is not enough, because these young men are innocent, it was decided to accuse a young man named Jude of coming to the US to commit an act of terrorism on US cities!  Jude is no more than 22 years old. He is overseas and the FBI is looking for him yet he was supposed to miraculously come back to the US, mind you at the time of the trial, knowing that he will be arrested if he comes back to theUS in spite of all the heightened security, to do an act of terrorism!

These ugly lies that have been created by the FBI have destroyed innocent lives!  I wonder how these people can sleep at night!  I wonder how some people will destroy innocent lives just so they can get paid!

I began to learn of the ugly reality of human greed at an early age and saw how many people will do so much harm and damage to others just for money! But I never imagined that my own country would betray my son and me. But since money is the root of all evil, evil seems to always prevail.

The Way I Feel: Laila Yaghi on ‘life’ without her son Ziyad

From the moment Ziyad was born, he was a good and quite son who gave me little trouble. He was patient and cared about me deeply and would cry if he saw me crying. Now he is in jail for a simple visit he took overseas! He has been in jail for two years for doing nothing! I want every one to keep in mind that my son DID NOT harm anyone. So why is he in jail then?!

The Way I Feel

Every minute of the day I think of my son. Not one minute that passes by, passes with out me thinking about him. The first thing that comes on my mind when I wake up is my son and many times I cry and he is the last thing that comes on my mind before I go to bed.

Crying is now a normal activity in my life. I could be laughing with one of my co-workers but I feel excruciating pain, deep inside me as if a razor is cutting my heart. As soon as the laughter leaves my face, I feel that tears are about to drop. All my friends abandoned me except for one who also seems to have gotten sick and tired of seeing me sad all the time. Who wants to be around a person who is mourning constantly over her son?
